Department of Energy Seeks SBIR and STTR Proposals

The Department of Energy (DOE) is now accepting Phase I grant applications from qualified small businesses in their FY 2010 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Funding Opportunity Announcement. The DOE supports high-quality research or research and development on advanced concepts concerning important mission-related scientific or engineering problems and opportunities that are likely to lead to significant public benefit from promising research.

The DOE funding opportunity announcement can be found on the DOE SBIR/STTR Web site at http://sbir.er.doe.gov/sbir/ or at http://www.science.doe.gov/sbir/solicitations/FY%202010/C30_Notice.htm. The DOE anticipates making approximately 360 awards under this announcement. The maximum amount for an individual award will be $100,000. DOE SBIR and STTR awards will run for up to 9 months, with a project period begin date in June 2010. The deadline for receipt of Phase I grant applications to either program is Nov. 20, 2009, at 8 p.m. EST. All applications must be submitted through Grants.gov.

The DOE is seeking proposals that address specific technical topics within the following offices:
- Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (7 topics; 29 subtopics)
- Office of Basic Energy Sciences (15 topics; 54 subtopics)
- Office of Fossil Energy (7 topics; 28 subtopics)
- Office of Biological and Environmental Research (6 topics; 17 subtopics)
- Office of Advanced Scientific Computing Research (7 topics; 22 subtopics)
- Office of Nuclear Physics (5 topics; 23 subtopics)
- Office of Environmental Management (1 topic; 4 subtopics)
- Office of Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation (6 topics; 17 subtopics)
- Office of Nuclear Energy, Science and Technology (1 topic; 3 subtopics)
- Office of Science- R&D Knowledge Diffusion (1 topic; 1 subtopic)
- Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability (2 topics; 3 subtopics)
- Office of High Energy Physics (7 topics; 36 subtopics)
- Office of Fusion Energy Sciences (3 topics; 10 subtopics)
