NSF Seeks SBIR Proposals

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has released its FY 2010 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I solicitation. The solicitation can be accessed on their SBIR/STTR website at (http://www.nsf.gov/eng/iip/sbir/index.jsp).
The NSF expects to make approximately 200 to 300 fixed amount awards of up to $150,000, depending on the availability of funds. Participants may submit proposals from November 3 to December 3, 2009.
Proposers are required to prepare and submit all proposals for his program solicitation through the NSF FastLane system, outlined at http://www.fastlane.nsf.gov/a1/newstan.htm.
The fundamental mission of NSF is to promote discoveries and to advance education in the areas of science and engineering. The four broad topics of this solicitation are as follows:
- Biotech and Chemical Technologies: The solicitation includes 13 subtopics under Biotechnology and 8 subtopics under Chemical Technology.
- Education Applications (EA): The solicitation includes 4 subtopics under EA.
- Information and Communication Technologies (IC): The solicitation includes 5 subtopics under IC.
- Nanotechnology, Advanced Materials, and Manufacturing (NM): The solicitation includes 5 subtopics under Nanotechnology, 8 subtopics under Advanced Materials and 3 subtopics under Manufacturing.
Points of contact for each subtopic are listed in the solicitation. Proposers are encouraged to reach out to the NSF program manager in their topic of interest to determine if their project is a good match for the NSF program.
