Defense-Related Research Opportunities
by Mildred Holley, Technology Programs Manager

The Department of Defense is expected to release its FY 2008.1 solicitation for the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program on November 13, 2007. In advance of that date, the Department of the Air Force has posted its tentative topics at www.sbirsttrmall.com/TopicPreRelease/Default.aspx. These 105 topics are subject to modification or deletion by the time the solicitation release occurs. New topics may be added as well.

The advanced availability of the draft titles and descriptions, however, provides extra time to small businesses looking for research funding for defense-related projects. The Air Force points of contact, identified for each topic, are available to discuss technical aspects of the research requirements. The information gained from such inquiries may help small businesses prepare more competitive proposals.

If you want to know more about Air Force’s SBIR program, browse the Electronic Library at www.sbirsttrmall.com/Library/Default.aspx. Success stories, newsletters, PowerPoint presentations and similar content can be found here.
