Energy Seeks Research Proposals from Small Businesses

The U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) released its FY2008 solicitations for the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs on September 20, 2007. The receipt deadline for Arkansas small businesses who submit Phase I proposals in response to this announcement is 8:00 p.m. EST on November 27, 2007. Proposals must be submitted using the Grants.gov electronic submission system.
The DoE has identified 60 topics across the following 13 program areas. Each topic includes one or more described subtopics.
• Basic Energy Sciences
• Biological and Environmental Research
• Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy
• Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability
• Fusion Energy Sciences
• Nuclear Physics
• Environmental Management
• Advanced Scientific Computing Research
• Nuclear Nonproliferation
• High Energy Physics
• Nuclear Energy, Science and Technology
• Science
• Fossil Energy
The DoE estimates it will award about 360 fixed price research grants of up to $100,000 and as much as 9 months as a result of this competition. The agency anticipates award selection will occur in April 2008, with Phase I projects to begin by late June 2008.
