Defense Changes its Small Business Research Solicitation
by Mildred Holley, Technology Programs Manager

Small business researchers planning to compete for research opportunities available through the Department of Defense's (DoD) current Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) solicitation need to check the agency's list of modifications. These modifications, 17 to date, represent changes made to the official announcement of research opportunities since the DoD released it in early November.

Especially important to potential competitors is the removal of 2 Air Force topics. Don't make the mistake of forgetting to monitor the modifications, and discovering that you have invested time to prepare a proposal that will not be responsive to the DoD's topics. Other modifications to topics may provide information that will influence your proposal development. You can view the modification list at www.dodsbir.net/solicitation/sbir071/modlist.htm.

Remember also that you can contact the research topic authors until December 6 to get questions answered. After December 5, no communication can occur directly with the technical points of contact.
