First Arkansas Small Business Hall of Fame Inductees to be Honored Oct. 18
by Tabitha Dunbar, Training Coordinator, UA Fort Smith SBDC

Several businesses from around the state will be the first inductees into the Arkansas Small Business Hall of Fame in a ceremony slated for 6 p.m. Oct. 18 in the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith.

To be honored are Hot Springs Tire and Auto Service Inc. of Hot Springs; Twin City Trailer Sales and Service Inc., Conway; Aristotle Inc., Little Rock; Barbara Graves Intimate Fashions of Little Rock; South Ark Electric Inc. of Hope; The Callen Accounting Group LLC, Mountain Home; Southwest Garage Door Co. Inc., Fort Smith; Amelia Boney CPA and H&R Block of Dumas; and EZ Spanish Media, Springdale.

UA Fort Smith was announced as a site for the Arkansas Small Business Hall of Fame in June. The Hall of Fame is a mechanism to showcase contributions of Arkansas small businesses, according to Dr. Roger Roderick, chair of the College of Business at UA Fort Smith.

The inductees were selected from nominations received this fall. The eight finalists were chosen based on four elements -- staying power, impact in dollars and/or jobs, a strong relationship with the Arkansas Small Business Development Center, and an inspirational story about their business.

“Staying power required that the business have been in existence for three to five years,” Roderick said. “The nominees also had to show their impact on a community or region and their relationship with their local ASBDC. The inspiration story we requested as part of the process had to be one that encourages or inspires entrepreneurs to start a business or would be such to encourage existing business owners to persevere. I have no doubt those selected do express each of the criteria well.”

Banquet tickets for the induction ceremony are $25 and are available by calling 788-7758.
