Marketing Tips for Home-Based Business Owners
by Amber Jackson, Graduate Assistant, UALR Lead Center

All of us can probably recite the slogans of large companies like Wal-Mart or McDonald’s, but what about the home-based businesses that don’t have millions to spend on an advertising campaign? How do these small businesses develop a marketing strategy that is affordable yet effective? AllBusiness.com developed a list of ten tips that can help a home-based business owner create buzz about their product or service.

Among the tips were some of the more traditional ways to market, such as developing a website that is creative and easy to navigate. A well-designed brochure or piece of direct mail can also prove to be a cost-effective way to reach your target market. Both should be informative and eye-catching so that they aren’t tossed out as junk mail.

The article also mentions other, less obvious marketing tips that home-based business owners can easily implement. Your voicemail message can be used to promote your business. Looking for free publicity? A press release informing the public of your new product or service may be the best place to start.

Of course, word-of-mouth is often the best way to get others to try your product or service. Keep your current customers happy and they will end up being your best advertisers.
