Energy Invites Small Business Research Proposals

The U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) released its FY2006 solicitations for the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs on September 21, 2005. The deadline for Arkansas small businesses who submit Phase I proposals in response to this announcement is 8:00 p.m. EST on December 2, 2005. Proposals are limited to 25 pages and must be submitted using the DoE's electronic procurement system.

The DoE has identified 50 topics across the following 12 program areas. Each topic includes one or more described subtopics:

- Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation
- Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability
- Environmental Management
- Biological and Environmental Research
- Fossil Energy
- Basic Energy Sciences
- Nuclear Energy
- Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy
- Fusion Energy Sciences
- High Energy Physics
- Advanced Scientific Computing Research
- Nuclear Physics

The DoE estimates it will award about 290 fixed price research grants of up to $100,000 and as much as 9 months as a result of this competition. The agency anticipates award selection will occur in April 2006, with Phase I projects to begin late June 2006.
