Advertising with Direct Mail
by Paul Considine, Center Director, SAU SBDC

Direct mail is a very cost effective method for a small business to use to promote services or products. Because of the one-on-one nature of direct mail, you can target specific individuals who have a need for your product, increasing the likelihood of making a sale. If you include a reply device, you will promote an immediate response from the customer.

A direct mail package can be designed to make an instant sale, open a dialogue between you and the customer, or simply inform/remind the potential customer that you are available to service their needs. Whatever the desired outcome of a direct mail effort, one fact remains. . . it is a proven way to reach customers because it is focused, can be predicted with accuracy, allows you to take your product to the customer, and is economical.
