Homeland Security Announces SBIR Solicitation Schedule
by Mildred Holley, Technology Programs Manager

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) expects to pre-release its FY05.1 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program solicitation on November 14. The full solicitation opens on December 14, and proposals must be received by DHS no later than 4:00 p.m. ET on January 21, 2005. Program topics are still under review.

FY2004 was the initial year of SBIR program participation for DHS. The two SBIR program solicitations that DHS issued last year can be instructive to Arkansas entrepreneurs who have R&D capabilities that match DHS SBIR topic needs. New topics will be described in the upcoming announcement but the proposal instructions are not likely to change significantly. For that reason, we encourage you to download the 2004 solicitations and study the program guidelines and instructions now.
