Internet Sales Tax Bill Introduced In U.S. House And Senate
by Timothy Lee, Associate Extension Specialist
A bipartisan bill to inact a tax on all internet, telephone, and catalog sales has been introduced into both the U.S. House and Senate. If passed, the bill will allow states who have adopted the unified sales tax system to immediately begin collecting sales taxes from all online, telephone, and catalog sales. Individuals and small businesses with online storefronts would be required to collect, report, and remit sales taxes. The unified sales tax system is being developed by the National Governors Association (NGA).
