Using Census Data
by J Beard, UALR Graduate Assistant

Many businesses in existence today have spent an exhaustive amount of time and money on market research, but for a small business gathering market data can be a rather daunting and expensive task.
Census Data is an inexpensive and simple way for the small business owner to determine the existence of a target market within a chosen business location.

There are many organizations that publish Census Data on the Internet and one of the most complete websites is maintained by the Arkansas Institute for Economic Advancement, http://www.aiea.ualr.edu/.

Very detailed reports can be downloaded from IEA’s website free of charge and these reports can prove to be a solid foundation for all future marketing investments.

For more detailed information on the use of Census Data in small business, please attend the Arkansas SBDC’s, “The Use of Census Information in Small Business" on November 6, 2003.
